day twenty-nine & thirty

Today the drywall guy came. He enclosed the whole kitchen in plastic and worked away from about 11:30am until 4:30pm. Everything looks good but everything now needs a new coat of paint. Ceiling and walls... Not sure  if we are doing this or Vince... thinking is it us :)

I haven't decided what color I want the kitchen so for now we are going to paint it the color we have been painting the other main areas. There really won't be much wall left after the back-splash goes up (which we will be doing this fall), so it will be easy to change if I want to in the future.

No one came on Thursday...

day twenty-eight

Today marks four weeks without a kitchen, family room, dining room and living room (and I guess almost 5 months without a powder room on the main floor)! We are very ready to be done with all of this.

The drywall guy didn't show up today like he told us he would, but Roman came and dropped off the curved edging pieces.

We finished weeding (good enough for now!) and Dave mowed. It looks great! Lots of areas need love and care but the difference between today and last week is drastic to say the least.

Total bags we filled with weeds: 25 1/2 bags!

These pictures are taken walking from one side of the yard to the other...

I also posted this ugly light fixture that was in our kitchen for free on craigslist (trust me- no one was going to pay money for this!) and it was gone within 2 hours :)

I LOVE getting rid of stuff!

day twenty-seven

The drywall guy came today and filled in the holes all around the kitchen area.

Holes left from columns.

 Much better!

He is coming back tomorrow with edging for the rounded corners and then I think to texture?

* Cabinet Update * They will all be in on Thursday so Friday they will finish installing all of the cabinets and measure for the counter tops.

days twenty-four through twenty-six

Another long stretch of not much in terms of people coming work but Dave and I have been busy.

Here is where we are at with the old kitchen cabinets in the garage. It isn't organized yet and there are details that need to be fixed, but we are really happy with all of the progress.

Measuring...

 Getting them in place

We didn't have a long enough solid counter top to cover the whole area so we needed to use the piece with the sink cut out. Dave took a small counter top piece and cut it to fill the hole.

We still need to caulk the edges... Not sure why the picture is so fuzzy :(

There was a large pegboard in the garage when we moved in so we cut it to size and made it the backsplash.  We also moved some of the shelves already in the garage over next to the cabinet tops to finish the area off more.

This is what it looks like today. Needs to be organized, but it looks great and holds a lot of stuff!

See our kitchen table in there? Yup, when it is raining or too hot we eat  lunch and dinner in our garage :)

We sold the cooktop (all of the old appliances are sold-yay!) and listed the extra cabinets that weren't going to fit (very random pieces not in great condition) and the trash compactor for free on craigslist and there were all gone in a matter of hours.

During the week last week, Dave and I really worked on the weeds in the backyard. Every night we weeded for hours and hours. As of today we have about an hour left of weeding and then Dave is going to mow and then over-seed the areas that are thin.

We lucked out with the weather. It would be hot during the day (90s) and then a storm would roll in, rain for awhile, cool everything off and make it easier to pull the weeds out. Perfect weeding weather!

This would be our field of weeds. The whole yard wasn't this bad, but a good 1/3 of the grass was.

The boys loaded up big rocks that were scattered all over the yard and put them where they are supposed to go.

It was hard work pushing the wagon through those tall weeds!

By Friday morning we had filled 9 bags and the smaller trash can with weeds.

Are you ready????
Before:

After
(did you notice? Our neighbors painted
their house over the weekend... )

Here is the rest of the yard. Three or four of the bags we have filled up are from this part of the yard and we still have a little to do, but 95% of the weeding is DONE!

We are at 23 bags of weeds!

days nineteen through twenty-three

Over the weekend we got a lot done. We worked in the garage, installing a lot of the old kitchen cabinets, the counter top and moving some things around. We aren't done in there, so no pictures to share yet.

We also sold all but the cook top of the black appliances that came with the house! Hopefully we can sell the cook top soon and get rid of the rest of the "junk" that didn't fit in the dumpster that is starting to add up.

Monday a guy came and installed our little exhaust fan/vent for over our cook top.

No one came Tuesday or Wednesday. Hoping things start to pick up soon!
