Roman came and worked all day today :)
I love the sounds of working!
This is an old picture- but if you look in the middle of the island you can see where the big hole for the microwave is supposed to go. Huge waste of space - it would have been positioned way too low and have wimpy drawer underneath.
We had Roman measure our new microwave, put in a bigger drawer underneath and frame out where the microwave will go. It should be pretty snug in it's spot, not as low under the counter and we have a lot more storage underneath :)
He spent a lot of time filling in the areas between cabinets with filler pieces. (We still need a piece to cover the vent)
This is the only really annoying thing that I have found, but there isn't anything we are going to do about it now. SO much wasted space on the sides of this cabinet. This is where the cooktop will go- which will leave very little space for pots and pans underneath. Someday we may try to figure out a way to take the inner sides of the cabinet off and built a wide shelf to cover the area, or install some sort of pan/lid storage unit.
Maybe something like this?
He added the white backing board to the island. In the future we will frame this out with moldings too...
We are picturing something like this:
He also installed the toe-kick boards.
We talked to Roman about how much overhang we wanted for the island counter tops, and we were told earlier that the templates for the counter tops were going to be made today, but we aren't sure if that
happened or not.
It's starting to look like an actual kitchen!! YAY!!! I'm so excited for you. Everything looks great.
