days twenty-four through twenty-six

Another long stretch of not much in terms of people coming work but Dave and I have been busy.

Here is where we are at with the old kitchen cabinets in the garage. It isn't organized yet and there are details that need to be fixed, but we are really happy with all of the progress.

Measuring...

 Getting them in place

We didn't have a long enough solid counter top to cover the whole area so we needed to use the piece with the sink cut out. Dave took a small counter top piece and cut it to fill the hole.

We still need to caulk the edges... Not sure why the picture is so fuzzy :(

There was a large pegboard in the garage when we moved in so we cut it to size and made it the backsplash.  We also moved some of the shelves already in the garage over next to the cabinet tops to finish the area off more.

This is what it looks like today. Needs to be organized, but it looks great and holds a lot of stuff!

See our kitchen table in there? Yup, when it is raining or too hot we eat  lunch and dinner in our garage :)

We sold the cooktop (all of the old appliances are sold-yay!) and listed the extra cabinets that weren't going to fit (very random pieces not in great condition) and the trash compactor for free on craigslist and there were all gone in a matter of hours.

During the week last week, Dave and I really worked on the weeds in the backyard. Every night we weeded for hours and hours. As of today we have about an hour left of weeding and then Dave is going to mow and then over-seed the areas that are thin.

We lucked out with the weather. It would be hot during the day (90s) and then a storm would roll in, rain for awhile, cool everything off and make it easier to pull the weeds out. Perfect weeding weather!

This would be our field of weeds. The whole yard wasn't this bad, but a good 1/3 of the grass was.

The boys loaded up big rocks that were scattered all over the yard and put them where they are supposed to go.

It was hard work pushing the wagon through those tall weeds!

By Friday morning we had filled 9 bags and the smaller trash can with weeds.

Are you ready????
Before:

After
(did you notice? Our neighbors painted
their house over the weekend... )

Here is the rest of the yard. Three or four of the bags we have filled up are from this part of the yard and we still have a little to do, but 95% of the weeding is DONE!

We are at 23 bags of weeds!

  1. I am beyond impressed! I would be just exhausted, but the end result is way worth it!
